Taman Amir Hamzah or Amir Hamzah Park, the name of this park is taken from the name of one of the writers named Amir Hamzah, a descendant of the Malay Sultanate of Langkat North Sumatra. Amir Hamzah died without trial in the social revolution in East Sumatra on March 20, 1946. He was later named as a national hero in 1975.

When he was a kid, Gus Dur – Former of President of Indonesia – often played in Taman Amir Hamzah. He often plays in this park because the location of Gus Dur’s parents is just across the Taman Amir Hamzah. No wonder a little Gus Dur statue was set up in this park to commemorate Gus Dur who often played in this park.
